What do I need to consider before bidding at auction?

A lot of people ask about bidding at auction. The first thing you need to realize is you have to be registered to bid. The auctioneer cannot accept your bid, unless you’re a registered buyer, and that means you’ve got a registration bidder’s card. In order to register, you need to have a driver’s license, a passport, a rates notice, so you can actually turn up on the day, and register your details, and the agents will allocate you a bidding number. You can do it before the day, but most agents will actually register you on the day, and each and every time you bid, you’ll need to raise your bidder card.
